Image of a teleporation mandala, a dark square image etched on a wall between two tall braziers with wide dishes holding flickering flames. The mandala features a complex geometrical shape comprised of the intersections and spaces formed by a single continuous red line. Some of the shape's interior sections are colored in bright blue, forming a pattern unique to the Temple of Dala.

The Temple of Dala is a Midkemian temple in Betrayal at Krondor. Devoted to Dala, it can first be visited in Chapter 1.

Geography[]

The temple is located between Tyr-Sog and Eldpoint. To its west is a house and a barn; inside is a sleeping farmer, drunken with Keshian Ale. In Chapters 2 and 3, Squire Phillip can be found outside the temple.

Description[]

The Temple has a glade-like sanctum with rippling water running through it, which can be found past a small arch under a woven curtain. It is attended by the Brotherhood of the Shield of Dala, under Risa, the Priestess of Dala. Vabon, a burly priest, assists petitioners when they arrive.

Risa tends the ill and injured in a small room, with a paper triptych standing near the rear wall to provide the sickbeds with privacy.

Role[]

A book in The Vaults lists a registry of regular attendees. A special proclamation stored there, made in the second year of the reign of King Lyam I, blesses the daughters of Flendel Halfgate, who "provided much needed leather goods, grain, and entertainment for the woefully poor in their hour of need."

The Temple of Dala is known for its works of charity and aid to the poor. However, thieves take advantage of the generosity of the priests, to the expense of the poor, and the Temple's stores are almost depleted.

The temple is depicted in the illuminations of Psalms of Dala.

Chapter 1-2[]

Risa asks the party to bring her a Bag of Grain, which they can obtain from Sara Halfgate in Chapter 2, to feed the poor. If they do so, they can pick one party member to receive Dala's lifelong blessing, an increase in Defense. If they return afterwards, Risa is away and cannot see them.
